You can now watch your favourite Apple TV shows on any Android TV
There is a lot of video content available for Android TV owners in the form of subscription services – from Netflix to Hotstar and from Discovery to Amazon Prime Video. One notable omission from the long list of video platforms has been Apple TV – this is now set to change with the arrival of official support for all Android TV devices.
We reported on Tuesday that Nvidia’s Shield TV would be getting access to Apple’s premium video subscription service, adding to the small list of devices that support the app. However, if you have an Apple TV subscription and a smart TV, you will now be able to start streaming with official support for the platform, according to 9to5Google.
As of Wednesday, the streaming service will be available for the “Android TV OS ecosystem”, which will allow any recent Android TV device to access the service, the report states. Users who have signed into the Play Store on their Android TV should be able to search for the app and download it. We tested installing the app from the store, as well as sideloading the APK file, and the app worked without any issues.
The arrival of the Apple TV app for smart TVs running Android is good news for those users that have been waiting for support for the service. Previously, only Sony Bravia smart TVs were able to access Apple TV. In our testing, the app worked without any issues on Xiaomi’s recently released Redmi X55 Smart TV, and should reportedly work with older devices that run Android TV Oreo (8.0) and above.
